How do you find specific colors in Adobe Illustrator?

If someone gives you a specific number of a color you need to use, how do you easily find it? Also, what are the best swatches to use for logos and other printing? How do you find specific colors in Adobe Illustrator?
Open up your color palette from your palette bar and type in the numbers. It may be set up as CMYK, and if you have CMYK numbers just type them in, but if the numbers you have are in RGB or Lab, click the little menu icon in the upper right-hand corner of the palette to choose a different input. It's important to note that if your document (not your color palette window) is set to CMYK and you enter RGB numbers, they will be converted to CMYK values, which may change the color you want. If the color changes too much for your liking, you can put your document in RGB color by going to the file (or maybe edit) menu and choosing the document color mode.

These instructions are for Illustrator CS3, and also CS2 I believe, but I'm not sure about CS or lower.

As the other poster said, try to use Pantone colors, as they have both RGB and CMYK values that are universal.

As for color swatches, you can use the built in color wheel in CS3 (maybe CS2) to help pick colors. I generally find that if I can pick a word that describes all of the colors in a scheme, they will usually go together naturally. For example, earthy, pastel, vibrant, electric, and so on.How do you find specific colors in Adobe Illustrator?
Use Pantone because these are universal. Anywhere you go, you will be able to match colors.
