How do I find an illustrator for my graphic novel?

I'm a fan of graphic novels and recently decided to write one, but I can't draw! How should I go about finding someone to do the drawing for me? Should I pay them for the images as they go or should I try to strike up a partnership for the project?

Also, where should I go to find the illustrator--internet, art schools, etc?How do I find an illustrator for my graphic novel?
Illustration for graphic novels is kind of a specialty area of illustration. Your best bet is to post a job on a freelancer site like FreelanceSwitch or Coroflot and see who bites. Having said that, illustrators aren't cheap and a lot of them prefer not to work with non-professionals because it ends of being a messy headache.

Your alternative option is the try to strike up a deal with an art student at a local college. It can be a mutual win-win because you need an artist and they need more stuff in their portfolio.

Look, the bottom line is this: you will get the best results if you go to your friends rather than go to a professional. Seriously. I've been that route (I was the ';professional';). Unless you have been doing this for a while, developing a series takes time -- the first ';Professional'; version of Walter Simonson's Star Slammers was four promotional comics for the 1974 World Science Fiction Convention in Washington DC and his thesis project at RISD. It was published as a graphic novel in the eighties (new story), as a miniseries in the nineties, then he licensed it for other people to do stories a few years ago. Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman were friends who did an AWESOME strip called Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles. If you love something you will put enough work into it to MAKE it professional. If you just go into it cold you are at a SEVERE disadvantage. So do your script, and find someone as enthusiastic about it as you are, and if you do that you are well on your way to selling it. As for the deal, talk to the person.
My best guess is togo on a site like Deviantart.com and find an artist that is also in graphic novels or just comic book drawings. Browse their Gallery to see if you like their style, and find someone close to your location. Deviantart.com is filled with people trying to be noticed and get their stuff put out there.
