How does one become a childrens book illustrator?

Im mostly curious, but also even considering it. I was wondering, that if an artist decides they want to illustrate childrens books, how would they go about doing so?

Also, how would a team of maybe an artist and writer together create childrens book if they decide to go at it alone? How does one become a childrens book illustrator?
You should read the book Children's Writers and Illustrators Market.

This is a good link to information about writing and/or illustrating children's books from the website The Purple Crayon. There are additional links within the article (including one on how to submit just artwork). How does one become a childrens book illustrator?
Create a simple webpage that features some of your work, your art, etc. Maybe take on your first few projects for a lower price than the rest - to give yourself experience. You can join scriptlance.com as a freelancer. I actually need an illustrator for a children's book I am publishing - have yet to find one. Are you interested? If so, you can contact me at hollybethmann (at) gmail (dot) com - thanks!
