They all seem to have something to do with making or editing pictures. Isn't it easier to just mash them all together? What's the difference between Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Fireworks?
Photoshop is for raster graphics. Things like photos, made up of dots/pixels.
Illustrator is for vector graphics. Things like logos, charts/graphs, etc made up of lines and shapes defined by mathematical expressions. Vector images are resolution independent and can be scaled infinitely without any loss in quality.
Fireworks is a graphics editor that can create, but is more geared towards optimizing, graphics and interface elements for web use.
These are 3 distinct and very different market areas. Trying to ';mash them all together'; would make for one hell of a mess. What's the difference between Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Fireworks?
Photoshop is for editing raster images.
Illustrator is for creating vector images
Fireworks is for flash.
Rasther than adobe's get these, Gimp is 95% as good as photoshop, and Inkscape destroys illustrator.

And they will open/edit/export as adobe files.
They have tried mashing them together in Corel Draw. Needless to say it's not very popular.
