Whats the difference between photoshop and an illustrator?

I mean in adobe. Can you tell me what I can do with both of them.Whats the difference between photoshop and an illustrator?
Photoshop is raster graphics. Raster graphics are a grid of pixels. So are the pictures you take with a digital camera. Photoshop is good for editing photos or painting digitally.

Illustrator is vector graphics. Vector graphics are geometry based and are resolution independent. You can zoom in on a vector based image as much as you want and it won't have jagged edges. Like it's name suggests, it's good for making illustrations.
