How do I uninstall Adobe illustrator when I keep getting an error saying that it is running?

When I go to Remove the program in Control Panel and click on Adobe Illustrator to uninstall. It comes up with a box that asks if I want to uninstall. I click on it and it starts but than an alert from the adobe uninstaller pops open and says it cant uninstall unless Adobe Illustrator is closed and if I close it then I close the uninstaller. I dont know what to do and it is driving me crazy! Help?How do I uninstall Adobe illustrator when I keep getting an error saying that it is running?
